Welcome to Rye College

Dear new Year 7 students and families,

Welcome to Rye College! We are so pleased you are now part of our amazing school!

We know the last year has felt very different but we are going to try our hardest to make the move to secondary school feel as normal as possible. Even though it's not as easy as it was to see each other face-to-face, we have some great ideas for getting to know each other before you arrive.

To start your journey with us, we have created this special 'transition webpage' with some informal welcome videos and a tour of the college.

We will be in touch with you and your family soon about what to do next - and there will be plenty of opportunities to answer all your questions.

Rye College is a very safe and welcoming school. All our students were Year 7 students once so they know how you feel.

Our school is a place where you can be yourself, quickly make friends and feel part of our family.

We know this is the start of your bright future!

Director for Learning for Key Stage 3

Transition Events

We are delighted to be planning for a 5-day transition week, to be held at Rye College starting on Monday, July 5th 2021. Events and activities will focus on students developing positive relationships with peers and staff, and understanding the core Rye Smart character values of Standards, Mindset, Attributes, Rye Community and Teaching and Learning.

We know that the transition process can be a daunting and emotional experience for some students, and we will offer some students a pre-transition visit in June, in order to support students in developing some peer relationships and familiarity before the key transition week.

These students will be invited in to Rye College by our SENDCO, Mr. M. Townsend.

In addition, we are offering virtual transition activities, commencing week beginning Monday July 12th.  Activities will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, providing an opportunity for families to become familiar with the platform before September. The activities will embed our key values of Rye Community and will be designed to allow all family members to take part.

Prior to these key transition events, we will be holding virtual webinar on Thursday 24th June at 6pm, hosted by the Head of College, for all families to take part in. This webinar will outline the transition process and key information regarding starting Rye College this coming September. There will also be an opportunity for parents to ask any questions, and an opportunity for students to be introduced to their tutor group and form tutor.

On a final note, we are pleased to announce that we will be offering all future Rye College students a Summer School over the summer holidays. At present, we are unable to provide more details regarding this as we are in the process of commissioning the provision. However, it will involve both a physical aspect and academic elements. We will provide further details at the soonest possible opportunity.
