Guided Choices

The aim of our Guided Choices process is to ensure students and their families feel able to make informed choices about the qualifications they will be taking for the next two years. The resources will provide information on the Key Stage 4 Curriculum and the individual qualifications.

Please take the opportunities provided to discuss with colleagues the implications of choosing a subject as well as the importance of a broad and balanced curriculum.

To support our students and families in choosing the qualifications to be studied during their Year 10 and 11, we have created the following resources or events:

  • Our Curriculum booklet – provides detailed overview of the process, qualifications available and further relevant information.
  • Year 9 Guided Choices Evening on Tuesday 27th March will be an opportunity for families to talk directly to their children’s subject teachers. Here families can discuss the most appropriate choices based on known strengths. We will also be running a Subject Area Course Fair at the Progress Evening where students and families can learn more about subject areas and spend time talking to our Curriculum Teams and Careers Lead;
  • Guided Choices Webinar - To follow the Subjects Market Fair, we will be hosting a Guided Choices Webinar on Wednesday, 17th April at 6pm. This online session will be hosted by Mr. Downes and Mr. Franks and is an opportunity to go through the process in more detail, and provides families a forum for any questions. Please use the following Zoom Link:

Meeting ID: 858 2536 9159

Passcode: s93aRQ

  • A video introduction to Careers Education, Information Advice and Guidance from Mrs Starkey and useful videos links to Choosing Key Stage 4 Options - please see both videos below;
  • A group guidance session with a My Future Starts Here careers adviser. The students will complete a personal action plan to help them with their choices.

By the end of the process, students and their families should be clear about which qualifications choices are best suited to their aspirations for the future.

Final preference forms should be submitted by Wednesday 24th April. Families have been will be emailed the form and students given a hard copy at school.
